We are pleased to present this lovely, one-off 57′ narrowboat built in 1988 by Apollo Canal Carriers and lovingly refitted by the current owner. Propulsion is provided by a Lister JP2 believed to date around 1945-1947. The interior has a charming country cottage feel and features interesting details in every corner. In 2024 she underwent an extensive external renovation to a high standard which included work to the stern gear, overplating of the baseplate, removal and making good of the D bars and skeg, new bespoke handrail, shotblasting and 2 pack blacking to hull and new anodes. There are 11 portholes in total, these date from the 1930’s and have been salvaged from a ship breakers. The boatmans cabin and engine room are fitted out in pine reclaimed from a row of terraced cottages dating back to the 1890’s. The flooring is in Padauk, a top end cabinetry wood. This particular Padauk was salvaged from a 1978 dancefloor. The copper doorhandles and lighting are all indivually handmade.
The Boatmans Cabin, complete with solid fuel stove also provides the usual clever storage you find in these cabins as well as the bench seat and additional berth. Next we find the engine room with the wonderful Lister JP2 and Lister gearbox. Moving forward, we then enter the main cabin area, the first room being the bedroom., This has a fixed double berth with TV at the foot as well as bags of storage room below. The stunning woodwork and individual style carries on into the bathroom where you will find an enclosed shower cubicle, ceramic hand basin and room for a cassette type toilet. Next is the galley with a central walk way with worktops and lots of storage either side as well as a freestanding oven, grill & hob and inset sink/drainer. At the front of the cabin is the saloon area with space for freestanding furniture as well as even more storage provided by the units to the port side. You then step out on to the front well deck which is also lined in wood with seating and further storage lockers. The well deck also benefits from a cratch and cover.
Jenny Wren is an extremely individual boat that has had a lot of love and thought put in to her. She is on a private mooring off site so please call or email for more information or to arrange a viewing.
